Three-year-old Ellie and 1-year-old Max have been the muses for designer Tommy E. Lawson.

"Their births and subsequent growth have been my inspiration for these children's garments. Originally I wanted to make a dress for Ellie and a shirt for Max, but they couldn’t be just any dress or shirt — I wanted to create something different from what I’ve seen on the racks at the stores.

Of course, I wanted them to look good, but I wanted to use fabrics that not only were 100% cotton but had some subtle pizzazz to them when used alone or when contrasted with another fabric. I wanted the finished piece to have some pertinence to that child.

I’d like to think big people would wear what I’ve created for their little boy or girl if it came in a grownup size. After all, whoever said children's clothes have to look like children's clothes?"
